- In the long run, yes, there are ice ages and warm periods, but human civilization has expanded to the limits of what nature can supply us and our cities, homes, and agricultural systems are optimized around 20th-century climate.

- Human metabolism is carbon-neutral. Plants take in CO2, we eat them, we respire CO2--a closed cycle. Short term closed-cycles of carbon in nature aren't the problem. It's digging up really old carbon and putting that into the air that's the problem.

- I was lucky enough to trade my SUV in right at the start of the crash in the resale value of used SUVs, but not everyone can afford to give away their car and go get something else. In the short run, we have to conserve and drive less, but look for opportunities to do better.

You hit the mark right there. The GOP will work to diminish what he's trying to do in order to prove themselves right and their causes. The Special Interests will work against ANYTHING that isn't in their favor. If they stopped all the bickering and position jostling and actually WORK for the people's best interests things would get better a lot quicker. Yes, division of parties is a necessary evil in order to keep us functioning as a democracy, but they just need to suck it up - put it aside - and get down to the brass knuckles of getting our country out of this recession and people back on their feet.
